It will also reap rich economic benefits,” Modi said at the 10th edition of the biennial event, which is being attended by more than 300 global defence equipment makers eyeing one of the world’s lucrative arms market. He added, “It can boost investment, expand manufacturing, support enterprise, raise the technology level and increase economic growth in the country.”The Air Force Station at Yelahanka in the British-era garrison city is hosting the five-day international version of the aerospace and aviation industry. From sellers, foreign firms must turn into strategic partners,” Modi said. Modi called on the international defence firms to set shop in India so that the country becomes part of their global supply-chain, according to The Hindu.”We need their technology, skills, systems integration and manufacturing strength. The nature of industry is such that imports will always be there. In turn, they can use India as part of their global supply chain,” Modi added.”Defence output will double if domestic procurement goes up from 40 pc to 70 pc in next five years,” Modi said. The Prime Minister stressed upon the need to reduce imports in the defence sector, adding that even a reduction by 20-25% in imports, would create direct jobs of 1 lakh to 1.2 lakh highly skilled jobs.He noted that if India is to increase local procurement of defence equipment from 40% to 70% over the next five years, it will results in doubling of India’s defence output.Domestic and International ParticipationAero India 2015 is being attended by about 600 companies, of which about 295 are Indian firms and the rest, global companies.Fifty-four ministerial and high-level delegations from various arms-exporting nations are also participating in the expo. Houston Bars Dont See Huge Revenue Bump During Rockets Playoff Games

first_img To embed this piece of audio in your site, please use this code: Florian MartinEddie Juarez at King’s Court Bar and Kitchen in EaDo expects an increase in patrons during the Rockets’ playoff games. But on average, Houston bars saw only a modest revenue increase during last year’s NBA playoffs. The Houston Rockets take on the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday in Game 2 of their first round NBA playoff series. In East Downtown, across the street from the Houston Dynamo stadium, King’s Court Bar and Kitchen gets most of its traffic during soccer games. But not just. Assistant manager Eddie Juarez expects a bump in business during the Rockets’ playoff run. “We get a lot of foot traffic here because of seeing how the Toyota Center is just down the street,” he said. “It’s a good place for people to come before the game and after the game.” X But this doesn’t apply to the average Houston bar.According to business data firm Womply, the impact of having an NBA team in the playoffs didn’t help Houston bars very much last year.“Relative to what we saw nationally, there was either a lower increase in revenue or actually a decrease in some cases,” Womply’s Brad Plothow said.Houston bars and lounges saw a 3 percent increase on game days and a 10 percent decrease on non-game days in the 2017 playoffs. That compares to an average of 25 percent increase on game days in other playoff cities.Granted, the Rockets were eliminated in the Western Conference semifinals last year.Bars’ revenue increased in every round, so with the Rockets having the best record in the NBA and expected to go far, it may look better for Houston this year.center_img 00:00 /00:47 Listen Sharelast_img read more

Dreams could be key to memory formation

first_imgPoor sleep quality is increasingly associated with the onset of various brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Results from this study, published in the journal Science, suggest that disruption in this important phase of sleep may contribute directly to memory impairment observed in Alzheimer’s disease, the researchers said.“We were able to prove for the first time that REM sleep is indeed critical for normal spatial memory formation in mice,” said study co-author Sylvain Williams, professor at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Also Read – ‘Playing Jojo was emotionally exhausting’This phase of sleep is understood to be a critical component of sleep in all mammals, including humans. For the study, the researchers used optogenetics, a recently developed technology that enables scientists to target precisely a number of neurons and control their activity by light.“We chose to target neurons that regulate the activity of the hippocampus, a structure that is critical for memory formation during wakefulness and is known as the ‘GPS system’ of the brain,” Williams said. Also Read – Leslie doing new comedy special with NetflixTo test the long-term spatial memory of mice, the scientists  trained  the rodents to spot a new object placed in a controlled environment where two objects of similar shape and volume stand. Mice spend more time exploring a novel object than a familiar one, showing their use of learning and recall. When these mice were in REM sleep, however, the researchers used light pulses to turn off their memory-associated neurons to determine if it affects their memory consolidation.  The next day, the same rodents did not succeed the memory task learned on the previous day. Compared to the control group, their memory seemed erased, or at least impaired.“Silencing the same neurons for similar durations outside REM episodes had no effect on memory. This indicates that neuronal activity specifically during REM sleep is required for normal memory consolidation,” study’s lead author Richard Boyce from McGill University noted.last_img read more
