Steven Gerrard seeking legal advice over shocking allegations

first_img Former Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf 2 Liverpool Football Club have reportedly declined to comment on the matter.PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING COMMENTS ON THIS STORY 2 Steven Gerrard is seeking legal advice after his former Liverpool teammate El Hadji Diouf reportedly accused him of ‘never liking black people’.The former Senegal international was responding to comments in Gerrard’s new autobiography, in which the former England captain said Diouf was “top of the list of Liverpool signings I liked the least”.Ex-Liverpool captain Gerrard also cited an incident when Diouf spat at a Celtic fan during a 2003 UEFA Cup match, at a time when the pair both played for the Reds, as summing up what he believed to be the double African Footballer of the Year winner’s “contemptuous and spiteful behaviour”.Gerrard has never previously been accused of holding any racist views, nor has he made any racist comments.“We all saw how he made life difficult for Mario Balotelli in Liverpool,” Diouf told Senegalese radio station Radio Future Media, according to Le10 Sport.“I warned him. Liverpool are not a team that welcomes blacks unless they are British. Otherwise, you have no chance. This is common knowledge.“Gerrard has never liked black people,” Diouf went on to claim. “When I was in Liverpool, I showed him that I was black, I’m not English, but I will not let him walk all over me. All the time I spent there, he never dared to look me in the eye.“Gerrard is just jealous. What I have done in football, he did not. When I came to Liverpool, I came up with the status of boss and he lives there.“I am respected in world football, the greatest football experts have appointed me among the seven best players in the World Cup, the top 100 players of the century.“Several big players do not belong. Everywhere I go out of my country, they worship me. [Gerrard], wherever he goes outside his city of Liverpool, will be insulted.”Gerrard’s former Liverpool team-mate, Dutchman Ryan Babel, responded on social media to a question regarding Diouf’s reported comments, with this tweet:last_img read more

Kieran Trippier (right-back) 11 11 11 Tottenham Hotspur face two tricky tests in the Europa League this year with Monaco and Anderlecht in their group but up first they must host Qarabag at White Hart Lane. The Azerbaijani side are a bit of an unknown quantity, with the only vaguely familiar player being midfielder Michel, who joined Birmingham for £3million in January 2010 but made just nine Premier League appearances for the club before being shipped off to Getafe.Still, Mauricio Pochettino will be wise to be cautious of the Horsemen, who were only beaten 1-0 on aggregate by Celtic as they attempted to reach the Champions League group stages this year, and reached the group stage of the Europa League by beating Young Boys 4-0 over two legs.So who will the Argentine manager be turning to as Spurs look to start with a victory, which will be just their second of the campaign?Click the right arrow to scroll through talkSPORT’s predicted starting XI… 13. Abramovich would be “off his head” if he sacks Mourinho, talkSPORT told

first_imgAlan Brazil insists Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would be “off his head” if he sacks Jose Mourinho.Pressure is mounting on the Blues’ boss following a string of poor results, his unsavoury row with former club doctor Eva Carneiro and his latest disciplinary issue with the Football Association which has seen him charged with misconduct following his half-time dismissal in the weekend defeat to West Ham.Mourinho admitted in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT Breakfast Show host Brazil earlier this months he has “never had such a bad to a start to a season”, but the former Scottish international claims it would be “ridiculous” for Chelsea to part company with their manager. He said: “This is all too much. It’s over the top. Yes, Chelsea are not playing as well [as they could be] but have a look at the table. If they sort it, just give him some leeway, let him get on with it, they’ll be back up there.“I think if you push Jose out of this job, you’re off your head. Who’s going to come in? And whoever comes in to take over will know he’s got a bunch of rebellious players.“If this blows over, and it is a big if – because when you hear people like Tony Cascarino and Jason Cundy talking the way they are, you know this is definitely serious for Jose – but if he comes through this he will get back to winning ways. I am absolutely certain of that.“I like winners and if you look at wherever Jose’s been, he’s a winner. You can’t just push someone [like that] aside and say he’s having a bad time, let’s get rid of him. It’s ridiculous, nonsense.”JOSE MOURINHO: “CHELSEA ARE JUST THE WORST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY”last_img read more

Clinton staffers are taken hostage in New Hampshire

first_imgThe office, in a town of 30,000, is one of many Clinton has around New Hampshire. The campaign said the people taken hostage were volunteers for the campaign. A law enforcement official confirmed to The Associated Press earlier that the suspect’s name was Leeland Eisenberg and said Eisenberg was an older man known around the town to be mentally unstable. The official declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the case. Authorities did not know what Eisenberg wanted to talk to Clinton about. They believe the device strapped to the man’s chest was made with road flares, not a bomb, the official said.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. The hostage then ran down the street toward the police roadblocks surrounding Clinton’s office. Police said earlier no one had been injured, and that appeared to still be true at the end. Witness Lettie Tzizik told television station WMUR of Manchester that she spoke to the woman who was released first and that she was crying, holding the infant. “She said, `You need to call 911. A man has just walked into the Clinton office, opened his coat and showed us a bomb strapped to his chest with duct tape,”‘ Tzizik said. Clinton was in the Washington area at the time, but the confrontation brought her campaign to a standstill just five weeks before the New Hampshire primary, one of the first tests of the presidential campaign season. She canceled all appearances, as did her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and the security around her was increased as a precaution. ROCHESTER, N.H. – A distraught man wearing what appeared to be a bomb walked into a Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign office Friday and demanded to speak to the candidate during a hostage drama that dragged on for nearly six hours before he peacefully surrendered. Shortly after releasing the last of at least four hostages, Leeland Eisenberg walked out of the storefront office, put down a homemade bomb-like package and was immediately surrounded by a SWAT team with guns drawn. The suspect – clad in gray slacks, white dress shirt and a red tie – was put on the ground, handcuffed and taken two blocks to the police office in the back of a tactical response vehicle. The man walked into the office shortly before 1 p.m. and took several hostages, police and witnesses said. He let a woman with an infant go immediately, and at least one other woman got out about two hours later. last_img

AT LAST! CARNDONAGH BROADBAND SYSTEM GOES LIVE

first_imgFianna Fáil TD for Donegal North East Charlie McConalogue has welcomed the news that the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) in Carndonagh has now been activated, with the first customer now live.Deputy McConalogue said, “I have been pushing the issue of getting the Metropolitan Area Networks in Buncrana and Carndonagh into usage in order to enhance the communications options available to local businesses. It is good to see that the necessary ‘backhaul’ has now been connected in Carndonagh and that the first customer is now live.“Usage of the MAN networks has been very slow until now with the connection costs proving a deterrent for a large proportion of potential customers.  Hopefully with the network now being used in Carndonagh, we may begin to see connection costs to the network become a more affordable option for additional users. “The Buncrana MAN has no connections yet. Therefore it’s important that the Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte considers using the MAN system as part of the plan to bring high speed broadband to second level schools. This would ensure that the existing broadband infrastructure (MANs) can be put to good use.”Deputy McConalogue added: “This is certainly a step in the right direction. I want to see more use made of this fibre infrastructure in order to further drive down the costs of telecoms for businesses in Buncrana and Carndonagh.” AT LAST! BUSINESSMAN SPEAKS OF DELIGHT AT CREATING 60 NEW JOBS IN STRABANE

first_imgMaking sure that the building work is on course for the grand opening on Saturday November 30 are venue manager Cathal Doyle (right) and Brendan McCusker (left), Group Manager for 1 OAK Leisure Limited which owns Rubys and TIME Bar + Venue in Cookstown.WORK is nearing completion on a new bar and nightclub venue in Strabane that is set to create up to 60 new jobs and attract more visitors to the region. In a £1.5 million investment project, business man Patrick Scullion has acquired what was formerly known as Katy Daly’s in Railway Street and is currently in the process of creating a new 20,000sqft ‘super venue’ for Strabane and its neighbouring areas. The opening of Rubys Bar + Nightclub will create up to 60 new full time and part time jobs which is welcome news for the area following a recent report commissioned by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) which identified Strabane as one of the council areas which will be hardest hit by the government’s proposed welfare reform. Rubys Nightclub, which officially open its doors on Saturday November 30, will contain two floors with a different music offering on each level and an extensive luxurious beer garden. The Parisian-themed Rubys Bar will open seven days per week from Saturday December 14 and will act as a live music venue that can accommodate up to 500 people for concerts and shows, or a function area that can cater for approximately 100 people for food and beverages. In total, the new super venue will host no fewer than NINE separate bars as well as the beer garden.New owner Patrick Scullion, who comes from a construction background, made a huge impact on the Northern Ireland social scene last year when he opened TIME BAR + VENUE in Cookstown which has fast become one of the province’s most popular nightclubs, attracting customers from all over the province. Mr Scullion hopes that Rubys will replicate the success of its sister venue.“In its heyday, Katy Daly’s was a thriving entertainment complex and one of the top destination venues in the north west of the province,” said Mr Scullion. “We hope to resurrect that business with a new state of the art super venue which will immediately create up to 60 full and part time jobs with the majority of staff coming from the Strabane area. Rubys Bar and Nightclub will operate on the same business model which has seen TIME in Cookstown surpass all of our expectations but with the added benefit of a function room which can cater for private functions or act as a live music venue for local and national bands.”The combined capacity for the new venue entertainment complex will top 1500 people and Mr Scullion hopes to attract customers from all over the North including neighbouring Donegal.“I’m a firm believer that if the product is good enough, then people will come and without doubt, what Rubys has to offer will rival anything else in the province and will give the people of Strabane a venue that they are truly proud to be associated with,” concluded Mr Scullion.Rubys Nightclub will operate a strictly over 18 policy on Friday nights and over 21’s on Saturday nights. A state-of-the-art Funktion One sound system and high-tech lighting system with LED backdrop screens will give top DJs from Ireland and abroad the perfect platform to showcase their talents.According to Patrick Scullion, a host of top national and international DJs have already been lined up for 2014, details of which will be released before the end of the year. Weekly live music will be a feature of Rubys Bar with some of Ireland’s top bands already being pencilled in over the next 12months.Sister venue TIME has also developed an excellent reputation for its food offering which is something Rubys will aim to match with a Gastro Food restaurant opening in late January.BUSINESSMAN SPEAKS OF DELIGHT AT CREATING 60 NEW JOBS IN STRABANE was last modified: November 13th, 2013 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:rubys nightclubSTRABANE JOBSlast_img read more
