Video Editing Tip: Organize Your Hard Drive the Easy Way!

first_imgKeeping your assets organized in your NLE is vital, but now you’ve got to organize your hard drive! Here’s a great way to do it.Keeping your project nice and organized when editing is essential – you never know who you might have to hand the project off to, or if you might have to come back to it much, much later. If it’s not organized, headaches and cursing ensue. Keeping things organized outside of the NLE – on your hard drive or server – is just as vital for passing off a project or archiving it. Here’s a look at one potential project organization setup that I use, plus a free download of the folder structure! ApprovalsThis folder is for non-final versions that are ready for the client to look over (usually .mp4s in my case).AudioThere are 4 folders inside the Audio folder:Mixes – specifically for mastered & mixed .wav or .aif filesMusic – for the raw stock or original music used in the project. Even if you use a master library, I recommend copying the songs in here so they stay with the project.SFXVODocumentsI put scripts, interview questions, project briefs, casting notes, etc. in here.GFXThis folder is for any non-footage elements like logos, images, pre-rendered lower thirds/motion graphics, etc.MastersDirectly inside the Masters folder is where I put the master .mov files – ProRes 422 HQ typically. There’s also a subfolder called Deliverables: This folder is specifically for non-archival delivery formats needed, like H.264 for web, ProRes or XD Cam for TV station delivery, .m2v/.ac3 files for DVD, etc.MediaSome people prefer to keep their media in a different place/drive than their projects. If you like to keep it all together, put it in this Media folder, organized by “Reel X” folders to separate card/shoot days.ProjectsThis is for all project files, including Premiere/Avid/FCP/whatever, After Effects, Motion, Cinema 4D, Flash, Audition, Soundtrack Pro, etc.I also like to add subfolders for each program, like so: PR, AE, FCP, FL, C4D, and so on, plus an XML for any XMLs created for program interchange: FCP -> Premiere/After Effects, Premiere -> Resolve, etc.VFXThis folder is distinct from the GFX folder – I use this for any footage elements like green screen passes, background plates, or non-mograph output from After Effects or Motion (like speed changes, logo blurs, etc.)Hopefully this system helps you easily manage all of the project assets on our drive. You can download a .zip containing an empty version of this folder structure by clicking here.If you’d a few more organizational tips fro videographers, video editors, and filmmakers, check out the following links from PremiumBeat!Get Organized Before You EditOrganize Your Video Editing Projects with Smart Folders7 Tricks for Keeping Your Camera Equipment OrganizedHow do you stay organized? After pests, rain pain for Odisha farmers

first_imgThe Odisha government on Friday issued advisories to farmers asking them to harvest ripen paddy immediately as heavy rain was predicted due to a low-pressure area brewing over the Bay of Bengal.“A low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on Friday. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level,” said IMD’s Odisha branch issuing bulletin here.In a letter to all Collectors, the State government warned that rain is likely to commence from November 13. “Light to moderate rain is predicted at a few places, while heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over south Odisha districts on November 14,” the letter read.As many as 17 Odisha districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj, will experience rain between November 15 and 18 due to movement of low-pressure system close to the coast.Safe storage“Farmer should shift their harvested paddy to safe places and keep it properly stacked under suitable cover so as to avoid any loss due to rain,” said Maheswar Mohanty, State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, after chairing a preparedness meeting here.Steps should also be taken to provide safe storage facility at paddy procurement centres, the Minister instructed.Fresh spell of rain could spell trouble for Odisha farmers who have already suffered massive crop loss due to low rainfall and subsequent pest attack. While over 3.15 lakh hectares of kharif crop, spread over 70 blocks in 15 of the 30 districts, were affected by drought, brown planthoppers sucked sap paddy plants in 1,28,319 hectares of cropped area in 8,092 villages in 24 districts.“We have a bumper crop this year. If untimely rain happens, the ready-to-harvest paddy crop will definitely be affected. We are keeping our fingers crossed and praying that the rain does not affect us,” said Jatadhari Rout, a farmer in Jagatsinghpur.last_img read more

Germany’s Joachim Loew bemused by Timo Werner jeers

first_imgGermany coach Joachim Loew was bemused as to why the crowd booed forward Timo Werner during the 21-year-old’s appearance in the 7-0 win over San Marino on Saturday. The RB Leipzig player was greeted with jeers when he came on as a substitute in the 55th minute and the crowd continued to give him rough treatment for the rest of the match.Werner caused controversy after allegedly diving to win a penalty during a Bundesliga match against Schalke 04 in December while his club, owned by energy drinks manufacturer Red Bull, have angered fans with their rapid, cash-fuelled rise to the German top flight.”I still ask myself, why was Timo Werner jeered?” Loew told reporters. “He dived once, he has made a mistake which he has admitted. But he is a very, very young player.”He is a national team player, who is at the start of his career and has scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga, and should not be jeered.”Werner, the first RB Leipzig player to represent Germany, was winning his second cap.Forward Sandro Wagner, who scored a hat-trick against San Marino, said it should not be an issue which club Werner plays for.”Here he was playing for Germany, not for Leipzig,” he said. “It’s totally incomprehensible that he was booed. It left a sour taste in the mouth.”last_img read more

Rangers Cage Panthers, 4-2

first_imgTweetPinShare0 Shares NEW YORK — Not only did the New York Rangers bounce back from one of their worst games this season, Rick Nash finally found his scoring touch after returning from a leg injury that sidelined him for almost seven weeks.Nash scored his first goal since getting back into the lineup March 12, and Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves in leading the Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on March 21.“It’s no secret: It’s been a grind the first five games after a long time away,” said Nash, who had 42 goals last season. “Each game I’m just trying to do something to help the team and try to fit in.”Nash, who went hard to the net a couple of times against the Panthers, scored his 13th of the season at 11:14 of the third period to give New York a 3-1 lead. It came less than a minute after Lundqvist stopped a breakaway by Jussi Jokinen to preserve the Rangers’ lead.“After I made that save, we got the puck up there and I was hoping for Nash to get one,” Lundqvist said. “It played in perfectly. Nashie has worked so hard for a long time. I think that goal meant a lot to him. It was a big goal for the team as well.”New York coach Alain Vigneault said the Rangers have to be patient with Nash.“That injury kept him from doing anything as far as weight-bearing for close to six weeks,” Vigneault said. “He’s probably still not fully recovered. He’s only had one real team practice. I thought tonight he took pucks to the net. That was a big-time goal at the right moment. There’s no doubt in my mind that his play is on the right track.”Viktor Stalberg, Mats Zuccarello and Tanner Glass also scored for the Rangers, who moved two points ahead of idle Pittsburgh for second place in the Metropolitan Division. New York has nine games left in the regular season, one more than the Penguins, winners of six straight.Vincent Trocheck and Jiri Hudler scored for the Panthers, who lost their second in a row. The Atlantic Division leaders are two points in front of Tampa Bay with nine games to go, one fewer than the Lightning have left.“It was a bad night,” Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. “We can’t show up and play 15 minutes, and that’s all we played tonight. The Rangers dominated the first two periods and there is no excuse for that.”Al Montoya stopped 28 shots for Florida, which had a goal waved off by the officials early in the third period.Gallant said he disagreed with the call but there was nothing that could be done.It was a bounce-back game for the Rangers, who gave up a season-high 52 shots and were totally embarrassed in a 4-1 loss at San Jose on March 19.“We were confident tonight,” Glass said. “We knew we had to come back with a big win. I think we played hard all night. It wasn’t perfect. No game is. I thought we battled hard.”Lundqvist was lifted March 19 after giving up four goals on 47 shots in 49 minutes. He had a relatively quiet start March 21 until the Panthers got going with roughly 7 minutes left in the second period and applied pressure the rest of the way.Stalberg gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 11:51 of the first, beating Jaromir Jagr to a puck at the point and converting a 2-on-1 with Dominic Moore.Zuccarello snapped a shot from the inside of the right circle into the top corner on a second-period power play to extend the margin to 2-0.Lundqvist got help from the post on a shot by Jokinen during a goal-mouth scramble in the second period, a play in which referee TJ Luxmore was in the crease and had to jump out of the way of the shot.A goal by Florida defenseman Steven Kampfer was waved off early in the third because the officials thought his stick was too high when he batted in a rebound.Trocheck cut the margin to 2-1 by deflecting in a pass from Jokinen at 6:51, and the Panthers had a chance to tie it when Jokinen broke in short-handed at 10:27.Lundqvist stopped him, and Nash restored the two-goal lead with a shot from the right circle as the power play ended.Hudler cut the margin to 3-2 with 36 seconds to play, but Glass scored into an empty net in the waning seconds to ice the game.(TOM CANAVAN, AP Sports Writer)last_img read more

Evaluating market for more SUV models: Honda Cars

first_imgJaipur, Sep 11 (PTI) Japanese auto major Honda Cars is evaluating the Indian market to introduce more SUV models going ahead, a top company official said Tuesday. The company, which is set to bolster its sport utility vehicle (SUV) portfolio by introducing the next generation CR-V next month, has already committed to launch six models in the country over the next three years. “The Indian market is diversifying, not only hatchbacks but sedans also. The SUV market is growing, so ofcourse as Honda philosophy we always try to study from the customer… what kind of vehicle will be appreciated,” Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) President and CEO Gaku Nakanishi told PTI, replying to a query about company’s plans to launch more SUV models. Elaborating further, HCIL Senior Vice President and Director (Sales and Marketing) Rajesh Goel said the shift towards SUVs is a global phenomenon. “India also has a similar trend and going forward one has to keep looking at the most optimum product which can be launched… to deliver maximum value to the customer, and that is what we intend to do,” he said. The company is studying the market very carefully, he added. When asked if the Honda has set a sales target for the all new CR-V, which would now also come with a diesel powertrain, Nakanishi said Honda has “very high aspirations” from the model. “We are looking at many many more numbers as compared to the outgoing model,” he said without sharing any sales target. The company has sold over 17,500 units of petrol powered CR-V units till date in the country.advertisement With majority of sales in the premium segment coming from diesel variants, Honda is set to benefit by introducing a diesel version, Goel said. Currently, the premium SUV segment in the country is dominated by the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Honda will assemble the new CR-V at its Greater Noida facility. Both petrol and diesel versions of the model will feature automatic transmissions only. While the petrol variants would deliver a power output of 154 PS, the nine-speed diesel automatic versions would come with 120 PS of power. The company, which plans to launch three new products during the current fiscal, has already introduced new Amaze earlier this year. When asked about sales growth expectations for the current fiscal, Goel said, “Until now the market growth has been around nine per cent and Honda has grown similarly. We aspire to grow better than the industry”. Last fiscal the company sold a total of 1.72 lakh units, a growth of 8 per cent over 2016-17. In the current fiscal, (April-August) period, HCIL has sold 79,599 units, up 9 per cent from 73,012 units in the corresponding period of previous fiscal. PTI MSS ANSlast_img read more

For India, this will be the last chance to test their resources and fill up a couple of vacancies in the squad before the World Cup. Gareth Bale close to leaving Real Madrid, says Zinedine Zidane

first_imgForward Gareth Bale’s tenure with Real Madrid could come to an end in a matter of days after manager Zinedine Zidane said the club were working on offloading the Welsh international.Bale, 30, has won four Champions League titles since joining Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for a then world record 100 million euros ($112.20 million) but struggled to hold down his place in the starting side last season.Amid suggestions that competition will only increase next season after the arrival of Belgian Eden Hazard, Bale was left out of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by Bayern Munich in a pre-season clash in Houston.”He wasn’t included in the squad because the club is working on his departure… that’s why he didn’t play,” Zidane told a news conference.”We’ll have to see if it goes through tomorrow, if it does then all the better. Let’s hope, for everyone’s sake, that it happens soon.”Bale was criticised by the Spanish media last season after failing to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus as Madrid came third in La Liga last season, 19 points behind champions Barcelona.Zidane, however, said there was nothing personal in his decision to deem Bale surplus to requirements.”There comes a time when things are done because they need to be done. I’ve not got anything against him,” Zidane added.”We have to make decisions and change things, that’s all there is to it. I don’t know if this will happen in 24 or 48 hours… it’s for the best for everyone.”advertisementBale’s high wages — reported by British media to be 600,000 pounds ($749,880) per week — mean few clubs would be capable of signing him permanently. His agent Jonathan Barnett last month ruled out chances of him leaving on loan saying he was happy to stay amid reports linking him with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Spurs. Also See:last_img read more

The Standard One, released last year, was a full-blown record console, complete with room to store your vinyl collection. The company’s latest, the Wrensilva Loft, takes a similar approach, but with a more light and airy look. With a body made from hand-selected hardwoods and a look that is straight out of an earlier time, the Loft may have your friends asking you how you managed to land a piece of vintage audio gear in such pristine condition. It helps you show off your vinyl collection as well, with a “now spinning” record slot carved into the lid. If your friends aren’t impressed by the look of the Loft console, they’ll most certainly be impressed by the sound. The Loft features a OA2 precision Gimbal tonearm and Ortofon 2m Red cartridge. HC restrains ecom firms from selling direct sellers products sans consent

first_imgNew Delhi: The Delhi High Court has restrained e-commerce majors like Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal from selling health and beauty products of direct sellers — Amway, Modicare and Oriflame, without their consent. The interim direction by Justice Pratibha M Singh came on the pleas of the three direct sellers alleging that products under their brands were being sold on the e-commerce platforms at cheaper rates resulting in financial losses to them. Also Read – Maruti cuts production for 8th straight month in SepThey also raised apprehension that the goods may be tampered with or counterfeited. The court observed that according to the report submitted by local commissioners who inspected the warehouses of the e-commerce platforms, also including 1MG and healthkart, the conditions of the goods had been changed. Besides, it said, the MRPs were on the higher side, there was wrong attribution of names, codes and inner seals had been tampered with and expired products were being given new manufacturing dates. Also Read – Ensure strict implementation on ban of import of e-cigarettes: revenue to CustomsQuoting an adage — with great power comes great responsibility — which was popularised by the Spiderman movie, the court said e-commerce platforms, which has penetrated all forms of business, have the obligation to maintain the sanctity of contracts and should not encourage or induce a breach. It said the manner, in which these platforms operate, makes it extremely convenient and easy for sellers to sell products without any quality controls. “The minimum conduct expected of the platforms is adherence to their own policies, which they have failed to do in the present case. “Thus, this court has no hesitation in holding that the continued sale of the plaintiffs’ (Amway, Modicare and Oriflame) products on the e-commerce platforms, without their consent, results in inducement of breach of contract, and tortious interference with contractual relationships of the plaintiffs with their distributors,” the court said in its 225-page interim order. It noted in its order that the manner in which Amway, Modicare and Oriflames’ marks, logos, company names and product images, were being used was “clearly misleading to a consumer” as the sellers names were not fully disclosed. “Contact details are not disclosed. The consumer, would find it extremely difficult to contact a seller. Consumers cannot be expected to do a fine and detailed examination to find out the actual source. “The consumer is not being told that the seller is not authorised by the pconsumer would, literally, require investigative capabilities to trace the actual seller,” the court added. The judge said the facts “clearly show that at the prima facie stage, the apprehension of the plaintiffs that the products are being sourced through unauthorised channels and that the products are tampered, conditions changed and impaired, is completely valid.” The court said that the company’s right to carry on business was being affected and jeopardised by the “large scale violations on the e-commerce platforms”. It said that such activities also affect the rights of genuine consumers. “The plaintiffs have, therefore, established a prima facie case. Balance of convenience is in favour of plaintiffs. Irreparable injury would be caused to plaintiffs, their businesses, and all those who depend on plaintiffs’ successful business, such as employees, distributors/direct sellers, agents, and finally the consumers, if interim relief is not granted,” the court said.last_img read more

Afghanistan After attack on funeral in Kabul UN envoy calls for urgent

“I urge everyone not to respond to violence with more violence, said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, expressing heartfelt condolences to family and friends of the victims, all civilians, “who once again suffered indescribable loss today.”He noted that today’s attack, which reportedly killed at least seven people and wounded dozens of others attending a funeral in the Afghan capital, was “conducted by those opportunistically seeking to use these very fragile moments to destabilize Afghanistan.”Mr. Yamamoto underscored that the incident “follows so much violence this week across the country, in Khost, in Kabul and in other provinces,” referring to a truck explosion on Wednesday that reportedly killed nearly 100 people and wounded hundreds of others near the presidential palace and foreign embassies. Just yesterday, he urged restraint amid ongoing protests that broke out in the capital in the wake of that attack. “In the context of so much suffering, now is the time to seek unity and solidarity,” underscored Mr. Yamamoto, who is also the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). He added that he has spoken with a broad spectrum of the country’s political leaders, highlighting the importance of unity. They agreed that working together is essential to stop the cycle of violence, he said.“Calm is now called for. Ensuring security in Kabul is an urgent priority, as this city continues to experience the highest number of civilian casualties,” he continued, reiterating that the ultimate objective in Afghanistan must be a negotiated peace. “Meaningful steps must take place now to obtain an immediate, nationwide halt to violence. I encourage all parties to enter discussions toward that end. The United Nations stands ready to help,” said the envoy. He also urged all members of the international community to help put an end the cycle of violence and support the foundations of a lasting peace. The upcoming Kabul meeting on regional peace and security provides an immediate opportunity in that regard.“I am in constant contact with members of the diplomatic community to work together to ensure coherent support,” Mr. Yamamoto concluded. read more

Animal rights at centre of upcoming Brock talk

Two renowned scholars will be on campus next week to get the Brock and wider Niagara community thinking — and talking — about animals.Acclaimed neuroscientist Lori Marino and Canadian academic Amy Fitzgerald will speak about marine mammal captivity, and animal advocacy and environmentalism, respectively.Canadian scholar Amy Fitzgerald will speak at Brock on Thursday, March 21.Presented by Brock’s Department of Sociology, the free Thinking About Animals event takes place Thursday, March 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Pond Inlet. Everyone is welcome to attend.Fitzgerald, who has published extensively in the fields of critical animal studies, green criminology, environmental sociology and gender studies, will discuss her most recent book, Animal Advocacy and Environmentalism. The book explores “how animal rights advocates and environmentalists can find common ground,” said Brock Sociology Professor John Sorenson.Fitzgerald is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at the University of Windsor, with a cross-appointment to the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research. Her research focuses on the intersection of harms (criminal and otherwise) perpetrated against people, non-human animals and the environment.Fitzgerald also collaborates with Kendra Coulter, Chair of Brock’s Department of Labour Studies‎, on research about animal cruelty investigations. An expert in animal behaviour and intelligence, Marino was a senior lecturer at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. She advocates for recognition of personhood for nonhuman animals and has campaigned against keeping marine mammals in captivity for entertainment. Her talk on Thursday is called “Crafting the Endgame for Dolphin and Whale Captivity.”Sorenson called Marino’s work “particularly resonant” for the Niagara region, given the proximity of the widely criticized Marineland park.“What I find most impressive about Dr. Marino is her ethical position on animal research and her insistence that advocacy is a responsibility for scientists,” he said.Marino is the founder and president of The Whale Sanctuary Project and executive director of The Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy. She has published more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific papers, book chapters and magazine articles on brain evolution, intelligence and self-awareness in other animals, human-nonhuman animal relationships and captivity issues. She has appeared in several films and television programs, including the 2013 documentary Blackfish, about killer whale captivity. The Thinking About Animals event is part of an ongoing series of activities by the same name organized by the Department of Sociology and sponsored by Niagara Action for Animals. For 20 years, the Department of Sociology has organized public lectures and international conferences intended to heighten awareness about human relations with other animals and to encourage activism to reduce exploitation and oppression. read more

Hey At Least The Cavs Might Not Get Swept

Before the NBA Finals tipped off last Thursday, I and others thought the Cleveland Cavaliers might give the Golden State Warriors a better fight this year than last. Unfortunately for Cleveland — as usual — that notion is quickly vanishing. Fresh off an easy 15-point victory in Game 1, the Warriors crushed the Cavs by 33 in Game 2 on Sunday night, burying the Cavs in the most demoralizing 0-2 hole in championship history. Before this year, no team had ever beaten an opponent by 48 combined points in the first two games of the Finals. If we account for the fact that the first two Finals games this year were played on the Warriors’ home court — meaning we subtract from the home team’s margin its built-in advantage of about 3.6 points per game, in accordance with our Elo ratings — the Cavs have been running about 20 points per game behind the Warriors in the series so far. Even among teams sporting 0-2 Finals deficits, that’s just embarrassing: Embed Code Never underestimate the heart of a champion, indeed.Cleveland needn’t go back so far in the history books for the other team to bounce back from a remotely comparable hole. This year’s Portland Trail Blazers were beaten by 41 combined by the Los Angeles Clippers in games 1 and 2 of their first-round series before storming back to win four straight. But it’s worth mentioning that the Clippers lost point god Chris Paul to a season-ending injury late in Game 4, significantly lowering the difficulty of a Portland comeback. By contrast, the Cavs would have to perform a revival the hard way — unless there’s another Steph Curry injury. Listen to the latest episode of our sports podcast Hot Takedown. By Neil Paine The smart money says it probably isn’t happening. Elo gives Cleveland a mere 11 percent chance of winning now, and it doesn’t even know that Kevin Love’s Game 3 status is up in the air after suffering a concussion in Game 2. But talk of a sweep might be premature. The same historical data that underscored the grim state of Cleveland’s title chances also shows that there’s little to no relationship between an 0-2 team’s margin of defeat in games 1-2 and the eventual length of the series. Although no team that was dominated as utterly as the Cavs has gone on to win a series from an 0-2 deficit, just as many forced a sixth game as were swept. In fact, of the 30 teams in our 0-2 sample to be beaten by an average location-adjusted margin of at least 15 points in games 1-2, only a third were swept; 30 percent lost in five games, 23 percent lost in six, 7 percent bowed out in seven — and 7 percent went on to win the series. And if they’re looking for inspiration to avoid the brooms, the Cavs should look at themselves, but in reverse. Early in the Eastern Conference finals, Cleveland built a 2-0 lead, whipping the Toronto Raptors by an adjusted average of 21.4 points per contest. That was a start so dominant that it had us speculating on the Cavs’ place in history, and it made the idea of the Raptors winning even a single game feel remote. But the Raptors promptly won two straight to tie the series (before eventually being closed out in six games). Faint consolation for Cleveland, but in dire times, it may have to serve.Check out our latest NBA predictions. More: Apple Podcasts | ESPN App | RSS | Embed In 15 tries since the NBA adopted its modern playoff structure in 1984, only one team has gotten out of an 0-2 Finals hole: the 2006 Miami Heat. That team clawed its way back when Dwyane Wade put on maybe the greatest individual performance in Finals history, the kind of thing LeBron James is also capable of doing. But those Heat hadn’t played anywhere near as poorly as the Cavs have through two Finals games. It gets worse: If we expand our view to include all best-of-seven series since 1984, we find that 6 percent of teams with an 0-2 deficit have gone on to win the series, none of which were dominated as thoroughly as the Cavs. First and foremost among the exceptions: the 1995 Houston Rockets. Despite being defending champs, the Rockets went into their second-round series against the Phoenix Suns as underdogs, and were beaten by 46 combined points in games 1 and 2. Back in Houston for Game 3, they rolled over the Suns by 33. But they lost Game 4 at home and had to gut out three consecutive victories, the last of which was sealed with Mario Elie’s “Kiss of Death”: read more

Watch ice needles pour out of a lake like PlayDoh through a

first_imgWhile our species’ explorative focus might’ve turned to space and the ocean, there are still some extremely impressive phenomena happening right where we live. We’ve seen snow and ice do some fairly cool (or terrifying) things, like this time-lapse video of a 2010 blizzard that hit New Jersey shows. A quick search on Google or YouTube, and you can find countless videos of people living in extremely cold climates tossing buckets of hot water into the air, only to have the water instantly turn to snow. Now, a video that is making the rounds shows what can be described as ice needles pouring out of a lake, each new needle clinking onto a pile of needles that came before it.The video, taken at Medicine Lake in Plymouth, Minnesota, captures many long, thin fragments of ice pouring out from chunks of ice on the shore. There are so many little ice needles that it resembles something like Play-Doh being pushed through the grate of a child’s toy. The sheer amount of needles tumbling out of the ice in unison created something of an abrasive noise, as if many shards of glass were falling to the floor.Reportedly, the phenomenon — known as “chandeliering” ice — happens when the temperature changes enough for the ice to begin melting, but rather than a full melt, thin slivers of ice break off of a main chunk until they eventually tumble down in a landslide-like fashion. There are a few reports of the phenomenon happening in the past, some of which created so many sharp ice slivers that they had to be cleaned away by front end loaders.last_img read more
